“industrialization” was fi lled with photos of scarred landscapes, similar to
Burtynsky's China series. h is section focused on apocalyptic environmen-
tal destruction, which was then followed by one titled “Nature, an Archive
of Pictures.” In it, robotic sounds and looping female voices emanated from
brightly lit miniskyscrapers that showed images of bicycles and birds (Is it
Chongming? I wondered). h e last section in the “Road of Crisis” took the
audience alongside a gigantic single mural of trash heaps with frightening
texts about high lead rates in children.
From this depressing journey through environmental exploitation, the
exhibit then switched gears to what Triad calls its “Eureka moment.” Audi-
ence members walked into a completely separate room, the centerpiece of
which is a giant globe, illuminated with a light and image show. Here, the
