of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, which is the next item on our itinerary, most days. If
you happen to be doing this tour on a Sunday, you can make both. If the Palace is not hold-
ing its changing of the guard for some reason on the day you do this tour, at least you know
there is another one to fall back on.
All that said, a lot of people actually prefer the ceremony here as opposed to the one at the
palace, because they can get closer to the action. Viewers are able to stand right up to a
roped-off area. The ceremony takes place on the parade along Horse Guards Road, which
looks like a big sand pit.
The Mall
Price: Free
*After walking through the tunnel at Horse Guards, continue to walk across its parade
and across Horse Guards Road, until you reach a large World War II Memorial (pictured
below). St. James's Park is behind it, but don't enter. Facing the memorial turn right and
follow the sidewalk, which will bend left onto The Mall. You'll take this road all the way to
Buckingham Palace, which you'll be able to see in the distance.*
