Note
In the preceding output, the ADR monitors one product (e.g., RDBMS) home. Also in the preceding output, there
are several directories under the home directory:
alert : This directory contains the extensible markup language (XML) alert log.
cdump : Core dumps generated by the Oracle kernel when it encounters critical errors are
stored in this directory.
trace : Process trace files and the database alert log are stored in the trace directory.
incident : The incident directory stores dump files created when critical errors are
encountered. Each occurrence of a critical error is given its own incident directory with the
incident ID used to form the directory name.
metadata : The metadata directory stores a series of files that contain diagnostic metadata.
hm : The hm directory contains reports for health checks.
incpkg, ir, lck, sweep : These directories contain the internal diagnostic framework
state.
Like most utilities and tools, Oracle provides two types of interfaces to query the ADR, command line interface
using adrci or using EM.
Retention Policy
The time frame for which the various incidents and problems are retained before being purged by the MMON process
is based on the retention policy defined. ADR stores two types of files:
1.
Files that have short duration, such as the dump trace and log files, which are retained by
default for 30 days. These files are controlled through the parameter SHORTP_POLICY .
2.
Files that have a longer duration, such as the metadata information, which is retained
by default for 365 days. The purges for long duration files are controlled through the
parameter LONGP_POLICY .
