remote) possibility exists that interspecific competition may indeed be
common but remains undetected because expected values are overesti-
mated. The section on ''Larval trematodes in snails ... '' (pp. 131-134)
indeed makes it clear that heterogeneity of the environment may lead
either to a greater than expected likelihood of co-occurrence, or it may
lead (less frequently) to a smaller than expected likelihood.
