raised boardwalks. The new deluxe rooms are lovely - with lake views and sleek modern

the seldom-seen Laguna Verde sector, this comfortable inn is known for its serenity,
proximity to spectacular viewpoints and top-rate service - but not for easy Parque Na-
cional Torres del Paine access. Activities include bird-watching, horseback riding and
sport fishing. Call to arrange a ride from the road junction.

OFFLINE MAP
( in Santiago 02-296-1238; www.pehoe.cl ; d/superior US$215/270) On the far side of Lago
Pehoé, linked to the mainland by a long footbridge. Pehoé enjoys five-star panoramas of
Los Cuernos and Paine Grande, but it's poor value with dated rooms reminiscent of a
roadside motel. The restaurant and bar are open to the public.
Information
Parque Nacional Torres del Paine is 112km north of Puerto Natales via a decent but
sometimes bumpy gravel road. At Cerro Castillo there is a seasonal border crossing into
Argentina at Cancha Carrera. From here the road continues 40km north and west to Port-
ería Sarmiento, the main entrance where fees are collected. It's another 37km to the Ad-
ministración and the Conaf Centro de Visitantes ( 9am-8pm Dec-Feb) , with good in-
formation on park ecology and trail status. A new road from Puerto Natales to the Ad-
ministración provides a shorter, more direct southern approach to the park.
