Copahue

This small thermal springs resort stands on the northeastern side of its namesake volcano
among steaming, sulfurous pools, including a bubbling hot-mud pool, the popular La-
guna del Chancho (admission AR$15; 8am-6pm) . The setting, in a natural amphitheater
formed by the mountain range, is spectacular, but the town isn't much to look at.
Copahue has been gaining in popularity, mainly with Argentine tourists, as the growth
in tourist infrastructure shows. Due to snow cover, the village is only open from the start
of December to the end of April.
The village centers on the large, modern Complejo Termal Copahue (
0299-442-4140; www.termasdecopahue.com ; Ortiz Velez; baths AR$45, spa treatments from
AR$40) , which offers a wide range of curative bathing programs.
The best hotel in the village, Hotel Termas ( 02948-495525;
www.hoteltermascopahue.com.ar ; Doucloux s/n; s/d from AR$450/628; ) , features modern
rooms, atmospheric common areas and an excellent restaurant serving both traditional
Argentine and regional foods.
