You can also hike from here to the crater of Volcán Achen Niyeu.
Getting There & Away
Although the park is close to San Martín and Junín, public transportation is not extens-
ive. With some patience, hitchhiking is feasible in high season. Buses over the Hua Hum
and Tromen passes, from San Martín and Junín to Chile, will carry passengers to inter-
mediate destinations but are often full.

Junín de los Andes

A much more humble affair than other Lake District towns, Junín's a favorite for fly-
fishers - the town deems itself the trout capital of Neuquén province and, to drive the
point home, uses trout-shaped street signs. A couple of circuits leading out of town take
in the scenic banks of the Lago Huechulafquen, where Mapuche settlements welcome
visitors. Outside of peak season, these circuits are best done by private vehicle (or in-
credibly enthusiastic cyclists), but travel agents based here offer reasonably priced tours.
Sights & Activities
Junín's surroundings are more appealing than the town itself, but the museum is well
worth seeing.
Museo Mapuche MUSEUM
(Padre Milanesio 751; 9am-12:30pm & 2-7pm Mon-Fri, 9am-12:30pm Sat) The collection at this
museum includes Mapuche weavings as well as a variety of archaeological pieces. Worth
a visit.
Vía Cristi LANDMARK
Situated about 2km from the center of town, near the end of Av Antardida Argentina, Vía
Cristi contains a collection of 22 sculptures, bas reliefs and mosaics winding its way up
