National Parks
The spectacular but often crowded Parque Nacional Nahuel Huapi is the cornerstone of
the Lake District's parks. Bordering it to the north, Parque Nacional Lanín gets fewer
trail trampers and has equally spectacular sights, including Volcán Lanín and humbling
pehuén forests. The tiny Parque Nacional Arrayanes is worth a day trip from Villa la An-
gostura to check out its beautiful cinnamon-colored arrayán trees.
Getting There & Away
The region's two primary ground transport hubs are Neuquén and Bariloche, where buses
arrive from throughout the country. The main airports are in these cities, plus San Martín
de los Andes, while smaller ones are in Zapala, Chos Malal and El Bolsón. All have
flights to/from Buenos Aires.
