Helpful tourist office with facilities at the northern end of town, on the highway. A small
kiosk (
9am-9pm) operates out of the bus terminal.
Getting There & Around
From Malargüe's bus terminal (cnr Av General Roca & Aldao) there are several direct buses
to Mendoza daily (AR$95, five hours), plus others requiring a change in San Rafael
(AR$53, three hours). Outside of winter, there's no public transport for Los Molles or
Las Leñas.
Transportes Leader ( 447-0519; San Martín 775) operating out of the Club Los Ami-
gos pool hall has one minibus leaving for Buta Ranquil (AR$179, five hours) in Neuquén
at 9pm Sunday to Friday. Seats sell out fast - it's recommended that you book (and pay)
at least two days in advance.
For winter transportation to Los Molles and Las Leñas ski resorts, contact any of the
recommended travel agencies. They offer a round-trip shuttle service, including ski rent-
als, from AR$120 to AR$150 per person.

Around Malargüe

Geologically distinct from the Andean mountains to the west, the volcanically formed
landscapes surrounding Malargüe are some of the most mind-altering in Argentina and
have only recently begun to receive tourist attention. Visiting the following places is im-
possible without your own transportation, though Malargüe's excellent travel agencies
can arrange excursions to all of them.
Just over 200km south of Malargüe on the RN40, the spectacular Parque Provincial
Payunia is a 4500-sq-km reserve with a higher concentration of volcanic cones (over
