Sights & Activities
San Rafael is flat (hence the proliferation of bike riders here), and when in Rome…get a
bike. Several places around town rent out clunkers, but if you're looking for a smooth

There are a few wineries within walking or cycling distance of town offering free tours
and tasting. Head west on RN143, which has a welcome bike path along its side. The
cnr RN143 & Valentín Bianchi; tours AR$15; 9am-noon & 2-5pm Mon-Sat)
is the furthest west,
but still only 6km away. Tours are friendly, offering visitors a glimpse into the making of
sparkling wine (champagne), and English is spoken.
Yrigoyen 2850; short tours free; 9:30am-12:30pm & 2-5pm Mon-Fri)
is a rather unromantic,
modern affair, but a worthwhile stop for some discounted wine. For AR$220 you can set
up a half-day tour, visiting the vineyards with an agronomist, tasting specialty wines and
eating a big lunch in the vineyard.

It may not scream 'Spain,' but the mod 1960s-ish interior is definitely unique.
Rooms in the 'colonial' sector open onto a delightful pool area, making them more at-
tractive (and a better deal) than the spacious rooms in the pricier 'celeste' sector.

Simply the best-looking hostel in town has OK-sized dorms and a
couple of good sitting areas. The inviting backyard (with barbecue for guest use) rounds
out the picture.
