Numerous companies cross the Andes every day via RN7 (Paso de Los Libertadores) to
Santiago, Chile (AR$400, seven hours), Viña del Mar (AR$400, seven hours) and Val-
paraíso (AR$420, eight hours). The pass sometimes closes due to bad winter weather; be
prepared to wait (sometimes days) if weather gets extreme.
Several carriers have connections to Lima, Perú (AR$2500, 60 to 70 hours), via Santi-
ago, Chile.
International buses depart from the main bus terminal. Companies are at the eastern
end of the terminal.
Getting Around
TO/FROM THE AIRPORT
Plumerillo International Airport ( 0261-520-6000; Acceso Norte s/n) is 6km north of
downtown on RN40. Bus 68 ('Aeropuerto') from Calle Salta goes straight to the termin-
al.
BUS
Mendoza's bus terminal is really just across the street from downtown. After arriving,
walk under the Videla underpass and you'll be heading toward the center, about 15
minutes away. Otherwise, the 'Villa Nueva' trolley (actually a bus) connects the terminal
with downtown.
Local buses cost AR$4.10 - more for longer distances - and require a magnetic Red-
bus card, which can be bought at most kiosks in denominations of AR$5 and AR$10.
Most lineas (bus lines) also have internos (internal route numbers) posted in the window;
for example, linea 200 might post interno 204 or 206; watch for both numbers. Internos
indicate more precisely where the bus will take you.
CAR
Car-rental agencies are at the airport and along Primitivo de la Reta.
