residencial
in the northeast of town that is more like a family-run hotel. The place is
spotless - you may get high on the smell of cleaning products - and rooms come with
TV and phone. They also offer apartments for two or four.

With a quiet location near where the town ends among rocky
hills, this ACA establishment is tired but offers value for money. There's space to burn,
with a garden and cavernous recreation room with pool table. Rooms are light, bright and
pleasant, with tiled floors and gleaming bathrooms. There's also a restaurant.

Mimicking the surrounding hills' color but still out-of-place in low-rise Chilecito, this
modern hotel bears the initials of the casino magnate owner. Facilities, which include in-
door and outdoor pools, saunas, a cactus garden and modern gym, are great. Rooms are
stylish and spacious, with hydromassage bathtub and elegant furniture. Still, it seems
overpriced: cynical locals nod knowingly. Service, though, is warm and enthusiastic.

A block west and seven
north of the plaza, this inviting local restaurant is worth every step. You've seen the
menu before - except for house specialties such as
cazuela de gallina
(chicken stew:
yum), and local wines - but the quality, price and authentic atmosphere make it truly ex-
cellent.
La Posta

Warmly decorated and stylish, with shelves of deli products on sale, the cuisine and
service here doesn't live up to the ambience or the prices but can provide a satisfying
dinner nonetheless. Kid (
cabrito
) is a specialty - try it stewed in torrontés wine. Follow
