La Quiaca is divided by its defunct train tracks; most services are west of them. North
of town, a bridge crosses the river to Villazón, Bolivia.

. Bolivia is much nicer than Villazón
promises, so head past the cut-price stalls and straight to the bus terminal or train
station. Cheap but reliable accommodation options are by the bus terminal and
the plaza if you need. Buses and minibuses head to Tupiza (1½ hours),La Paz (20
hours) and elsewhere. The train station (

for timetables) is 1.5km
north of the border crossing, with four weekly services to Tupiza (three hours), Uy-
uni (six hours) and Oruro (13 hours). Bolivia is one hour behind northern Argentina.
For a quick Villazón visit, clear Argentine immigration but don't get stamped into
Bolivia. La Quiaca has a Bolivian consulate.

corner, this place offers small, rather sweet heated pink rooms with shared bathroom and
amiable staff. Ongoing renovations will add more rooms and facilities. Handily, the staff
can reserve Bolivian trains for you. HI discount.
