Aisito NORTHWEST ARGENTINE $

with caring service, this is a pleasing option for well-priced local cuisine. Tasty baked
empanadas take their place alongside well-blended stirfries and succulent llama. There's
excellent live music at weekends, and nightly in summer.
Mikunayoc NORTHWEST ARGENTINE $
(cnr Corrientes & Tucumán; mains AR$40-80; 11am-3.30pm) The wide-ranging menu here
includes several interesting llama dishes, cordial service and a range of empanadas which
feature intriguing fillings. The salads are also a good bet. It's a pleasant, colorful place so
you can forgive the odd lapses.
K'Allapurca NORTHWEST ARGENTINE $
(Belgrano 210; mains AR$28-60; 11.30am-3pm & 8-11pm; ) Tasty llama stews plus
pizza, pasta and more at this oversized but welcoming main street restaurant.
Casa Vieja NORTHWEST ARGENTINE $$$
(cnr Buenos Aires & Salta; mains AR$60-90; 8am-11:30pm; ) Perhaps better for a relaxing
drink than a meal, this warm and attractive corner spot is hung with basketry and large
dreamcatchers. It serves various local dishes, overpriced, but including several appealing
veggie options.
Shopping
The handicrafts market, near the defunct train station, has woolen goods, souvenirs and
atmosphere. Near the plaza, Manos Andinas (Buenos Aires 401;
8am-noon & 3:30-9pm)
sells fair-trade artesanía .
Information
There are several central internet places. The tourist office (Plaza Gómez s/n; 7am-7pm
Mon-Fri, 7am-noon Sat, extended hours Jan-Feb) is in the cabildo; there's also an ATM on this
plaza. The tourist office on the highway is shut, but young rascals outside sell pamphlets
that the other office gives out free.
