) A variety of rooms is tucked away here behind a popular central restaurant. They're
clean and OK for the price, but make sure you select carefully (upstairs) as some of those
with shared bathroom tend to be somewhat poky. The further back, the quieter it gets.

( 423-7565; www.clubhosteljujuy.com.ar ; San Martín 134; dm/d AR$70/240; ) This ad-
equate hostel has dark dorms that have lockers and triple-berth bunks last seen in steer-
age on the Titanic . Private rooms with bathrooms are pricy but decent, and there's a kit-

( 422-2539; www.elarribo.com ; Belgrano 1263; s/d AR$384/600; ) An oasis in
the heart of Jujuy, this highly impressive family-run place is a real visual feast. The ren-
ovated 19th-century mansion is wonderful, with original floor tiles, high ceilings and
wooden floors; there's patio space galore and a huge garden. The modern annex behind
doesn't lose much by comparison, but go for an older room if you can. In Salta this
would cost double.

( 424-9800; www.hjjujuy.com.ar ; Güemes 864; r AR$950; ) This chain hotel is
set in a borderline-ugly building and feels a bit impersonal but makes up for it with really
excellent facilities, including a sizable pool, spa and gym. Rooms are spacious and com-
fortable.
Eating
Jujuy's lively Mercado del Sur OFFLINE MAP GOOGLE MAP , opposite the bus ter-
minal, is a genuine trading post where indigenous Argentines swig mazamorra (a cold
maize soup) and peddle coca leaves. Simple eateries around here serve hearty regional
specialties; try chicharrón con mote (stir-fried pork with boiled maize) or spicy sopa de
maní (peanut soup).
