Parque Nacional Chaco
Preserving several diverse ecosystems that reflect subtle differences in relief, soils and
rainfall, this very accessible park ( 03725-499161; www.parquesnacionales.gov.ar ; admis-
sion free; Solari 9am-4pm, park 24hr) protects 150 sq km of the humid eastern Chaco. It is
115km northwest of Resistencia via RN16 and RP9. The access town is Capitán Solari.
Activities
Hiking and bird-watching are the principal activities here. From the main campground
there are two short trails, one leading to viewpoints over lakes. A longer 12km road, suit-
able for cars, bikes and horses, heads south to the Panza de Cabra lake.
Sleeping & Eating
The park's main campground is equipped with power, toilets, drinking water and rentable
bikes. Though vendors sometimes appear at weekends, you should bring all your own
food. There are various sleeping options in Capitán Solari and closer to the park. The
closest is José Luis Ávalos (

) , less than 1km
away.
Getting There & Away
Capitán Solari is 2½ hours from Resistencia by bus. La Estrella runs five buses daily
(AR$38).
From Capitán Solari, the park office may be able to organize transportation for you -
it's worth ringing - otherwise you can walk, hitchhike or take a remise (AR$40 to
AR$50) the 5km to the park. The road may be impassable for motor vehicles in wet
weather.
