Art deco fans mustn't miss this 1920s classic, a few steps south of Plaza 25 de
Mayo. It's an amazingly large and characterful building with some enticingly curious
period features. The refurbished rooms are great - make sure you get one - and there are
good-value apartments available too.

A few blocks south of Plaza
25 de Mayo, the old-fashioned Alfil is a reasonable budget choice. Interior rooms are
dark but worthwhile if the significant street noise in the exterior rooms (with their
strangely inaccessible balconies) will bother you. Air-con is AR$20 extra, but it's a de-
cent deal despite the lack of breakfast.

swish casino-hotel is the city's smartest choice, with various grades of room and slick
service. Rooms are excellent for these rates: very spacious, attractively stepped and with
a dark, elegant, vaguely Asian feel to the decor. As well as the slot machines, there's a
sauna, gym and self-contained spa complex. The big outdoor pool with bar is a highlight.

Shiny and con-
fident, this hotel alongside Plaza 25 de Mayo offers excellent service and plenty of value
for its gleaming but very compact modern rooms, which boast great bathrooms, comfy
beds and big flat-screen TVs. Some look over the plaza. There's also a gym with vistas
and a small spa complex with saunas and outdoor Jacuzzi.
