Drinking & Nightlife
Make sure you have the classic Brazil experience: an ice-cold bottle of beer in a plastic
insulator served in a no-frills local bar with red plastic seats. Unbeatable. For a healthier
tipple, juice bars give you the chance to try exotic fruits such as
acerola, açaí
or
cupuaçu
.
Nightlife in the city centers on Av Jorge Schimmelpfeng. A row of big indoor-outdoor
bars here all specialize in
chopp
(draft beer) and do decent food designed to share.
Orientation
Foz is at the confluence of the Ríos Iguaçu (Iguazú) and Paraná; international bridges
connect it to Puerto Iguazú, Argentina and Ciudad del Este, Paraguay. Av das Cataratas
leads 20km to the Brazilian side of the Iguazú falls, passing the Argentina bridge on the
way.
Information
Hotels and restaurants (and just about everything else including buses) in town accept
US dollars, Paraguayan guaranis and Argentine pesos, but it's always cheaper to pay in
Brazilian reals. There's currency exchange at the border. Handy ATMs are in the Muffato
supermarket, a block past the urban bus terminal.

Four-hour turn-around for visas (US$80 to US$160
depending on nationality). At the Paraguayan border, you may be able to get in for the
day without one, or buy a three-day entry there.

MISIONES JUNGLE WITHOUT THE CROWDS
The Iguazú jungle is a fabulous habitat for birds, plants, insects and mammals, but
mass tourism at the falls means you're unlikely to see as much wildlife as you
might wish. One option for seeing more is to head east to the other end of the park.
