Getting Around
Bus 2 (AR$3) takes Yrigoyen south from the bus terminal to the town center. On its
northward run catch it on Pellegrini in front of Banco de la Nación. A taxi to the bus ter-
minal from the town center should cost about AR$20.

The name (meaning 'Crossing of the Free') is the most romantic thing about this border
town on the banks of the Río Uruguay. It faces the larger Brazilian city of Uruguaiana on
the opposite bank, and is connected to it by a well-used bridge. There's little to detain the
traveler but the town has plenty of cross-border life, a picturesque central plaza and de-
cent sleeping and eating options.
Sleeping & Eating
Hotel Las Vegas HOTEL $
( 423490; Sarmiento 554; s/d AR$180/300; ) Despite the burgundy carpets and '70s
feel, this isn't so old and is a well-kept budget place in the town center. The rooms are
dark but comfortable and have adequate bathrooms. Rooms up the back have more light
and space. Ask for air-con if you want it: you do.
Hotel Alejandro Primero HOTEL $$$
( 424100; www.alejandroprimero.com.ar ; Coronel López 502; s/d AR$350/500; ) A
surprisingly good hotel, this has an elegant and old-fashioned lobby and restaurant area
and slightly less impressive but very spacious rooms. Ask for one with views over the
river and Uruguaiana in Brazil on the other side. There's also a pleasant outdoor pool and
garden area.
