In Ubajay there are basic rooms in the bus terminal complex as well as other cheap
lodgings.
Camping El Palmar CAMPGROUND $
( 423378; campsites per adult/child/tent AR$45/20/30) This sociable campground by the
visitor center is the only place to stay in the park. It has shady, level campsites, hot
showers and electricity. The shop here sells snacks and food, including slabs of beef for
the barbecues; opposite, there's a restaurant.
La Aurora del Palmar LODGE, CAMPGROUND $$$

s/d without shower AR$200/300, d/q from AR$400/550; ) Between Ubajay and El
Palmar's entrance, this property is cattle ranch and citrus farm, plus has a protected palm
forest as spectacular as those in the national park itself. It's an original, well-run place
with shady campsites, family duplex rooms in a pretty bungalow, and rustic wooden
rooms in renovated railway carriages. There's a good swimming pool and a restaurant.
Canoeing, horseback riding and palm safaris are available.
Getting There & Away
El Palmar is on RN 14, a major national highway, so there are frequent north-south bus
services. Any bus running north towards Concordia will drop you at the park entrance,
12km from the visitor center. You could walk or hitchhike from here; otherwise, stay on
the bus for a further 6km to Ubajay, from where a remise will cost you around AR$100
to the visitor center. Ask the call shop alongside the bus terminal to call you one.
The easiest way to get here is by remise from Colón, where you can arrange a return
trip plus two hours at the park, covering all the trails, for AR$380 (up to four people). A
recommended driver for his good park knowledge is Ariel (
03447-15-452451) .
THERMAL SPAS ALONG THE URUGUAY
Most of the towns along the Río Uruguay - Gualeguaychú, Colón and Concordia for
starters - have tapped the region's abundant geothermal aquifers to create ap-
pealing thermal spa complexes: a major focus of domestic tourism in these parts.
