This intimate and classy hotel a block west and four south of the plaza offers a real
haven for a relaxing stay. It's an elegantly refurbished 19th-century mansion, with plenty
of original features and rooms surrounding a postcard-pretty courtyard complete with
fountain and small swimming pool. The superiors are worth the upgrade: much more
spacious, with lovely furniture.

On the northwest corner of the plaza, this offbeat place has a bit of everything,
with a terrace, chessboard tiles, tasty coffee, wooden bench booths, food and regular live
music.
El Conventillo de Baco

This handsome and
totally recommendable spot has both indoor and outdoor dining in an attractive patio
space and specializes in well-prepared river fish and seafood, with dishes like calamari

costs AR$10. A train arrives here from Paraná on Fridays
and returns on Sundays (AR$26, eight hours).
