Launched.in.April.2001,.NASA's.Mars.Odyssey.is.now.prepared.to.collect.
data.that.will.offer.insights.into.the.makeup.and.history.of.the.Red.Planet..
With.the.spacecraft's.20-ft.boom.successfully.deployed,.two.neutron.detec-
tors.and.the.gamma.ray.spectrometer.(GPS).mounted.on.its.end,.the.space-
craft.can.measure.the.quantity.and.distribution.of.primary.elements.located.
at.or.near.the.planet's.surface.and.also.the.modulus.of.elasticity.of.the.pri-
mary.elements.
Additionally,.silicon,.oxygen,.iron,.magnesium,.potassium,.aluminum,.cal-
cium,.sulfur,.and.carbon.are.among.the.20.primary.elements.being.measured.
NASA's. Marshall. Space. Flight. Center. (MSFC). has. tested. Raytheon's.
Radiance.infrared.camera.to.devise.NDE.methods.for.assembling.assorted.

These.NDE.techniques.had.been.used.for.any.structural.anomaly.determi-
nations.for.composites.on.the.Space.Shuttle.nose.cap.and.the.Radiance.system.
was.used.for.the.thermography.component.because.the.camera's.256.×.256-
pixel. InSb. (indium. antimonide). standing. focal. plane. array. generates. high-
resolution.images.and.is.highly.sensitive.to.slight.temperature.changes. 14
Thermoforming. technology. includes. prepreg. layup. layers,. a. curing. pro-
cess. with. monitoring. parameters,. pressure,. temperature. of. polymerization.
time,.and.a.cooling.process.with.a.temperature.gradient.of.more.than.10°F.
(12°C)..This.means.that.there.is.an.irregular.ield.of.temperature.and.thermal.
stresses.and.can.be.detected.by.NDT.methods.
