“Yes, for a whole week! We are so excited; I'm with my two girl friends. It is so beautiful
here. I've been here before a few times and always love to just unwind here. I feel so safe
on Lanai. Are you visiting here from South Africa or what?”
I briefly told her my story, and she listened with great interest.
“Wow, that is so cool! I'm Susanne, by the way. I would love to introduce you to my two
other friends. What are you doing tonight?” she enquired.
“Well, let's see now, I may go and see a movie or have a drink at the hotel or …” I started
to tease her.
She laughed, “I know Lanai is pretty quiet at night. Why don't you come over for a drink
and have a barbecue with the girls tonight?”
“Well, if you are sure? What about your friends? Surely they don't want their peaceful trip
disturbed?”
“Oh no, they will find your story quite fascinating; come around at six; we'll be expecting
you,” she said with a sweet smile and walked back toward her campsite.
Whew! I thought excitedly, what a babe! I think she likes me too. Oh boy, this could be
good! It was all I could think of all day while I worked at the service station. I was doing
some shop fitting in the office, and I worked in good spirits.
“You seem to be very happy today, Jonathan,” Vicky the receptionist said, smiling know-
ingly. It's funny how women know these things. “Have you met a girl then?” I looked at
her in amazement.
“How do you know?”
“Oh, a girl can tell.” She smiled secretively at me. “A girl can tell. Actually, I bet I know
who it is too. Three young ladies arrived this morning. I had to pick them up at the airport
and drop them off at the beach. Let me guess; it is the girl with long, blondish hair?” She
winked at me when I smiled and blushed, embarrassed.
“She's cute. What's her name?”
“Susanne,” I replied. “I'm going around tonight for a barbecue.”
“Boy, you don't waste much time, do you?” she laughed.
“Well, actually she invited me!” I chided her.
“Yeah, I'm sure!”
