All other parts of the first prototype of the micromachine tool were also made
according to the criteria of low cost and scaling down. Figure 8.18 shows a
schematic diagram of the control system of the first prototype. This system was
designed to use the possibilities of a personal computer (PC) and to minimize the
external equipment. The external equipment contains only two 8-bit buffers and a
16-channel amplifier of direct current. The port of the micromachine tool contains
only connectors and transformers of sensor contact signals of the voltage levels that
are compatible with the input PC port. Devices manufactured with the first micro-
machine tool prototype are shown in Fig. 8.19 .
8.5 The Second Prototype
The main advantages of the first prototype are the simplicity of its design and the
easy manufacture of its components, along with a very simple control system. But
the first prototype had some drawbacks, which we tried to eliminate in the second
prototype [ 8 ]. It was necessary to increase slightly the complexity of the prototype
