Hiking Above the Clouds, Drakensberg
All other so called sports and one presumes he included Africa hunting; he referred to as
mere games. The Big Five are certainly dangerous and on occasion the hunter becomes the
hunted, but that is usually when the animal is wounded. There have been endless discussions
about which is the most dangerous to hunt, including a long discussion in Roosevelt's African
Game Trails . Once they charge, lions, leopards and buffalo rarely turn away. Elephants,
lionesses, and rhino can be turned by bullets in the ground, body shots or shouting. Interesting,
in a study by Tom Smith of 269 bear attacks in Alaska, in only a third of charges was a grizzly
turned away by a warning shot. When injured, buffalo and leopards are the most formidable,
although lions are also ferocious.
