steep road to a lovely permanent camp with a number of thatched huts, a central cook house
and dining area, and a grass lawn between them. We unloaded our gear and had a chance
to meet our hunting and living companions. Brent introduced us to the two trackers. Friday
is a middle aged man who grew up on Brent's family farm when Brent's family still owned it
(and once upon a time was Brent's babysitter) and they have been with Brent since he
became a professional hunter. William is younger and the guy in our pictures with a full
beard. Both of them speak Shona although they also speak some English. Their English is
better than my Shona. The cook, the dining room attendant, the person who washes the
clothes and cleans, and the skinners, all introduced themselves, and we carried our
equipment to our room. We had a quick dinner and I was really tired. We went over with
Brent what our goals and our priorities were for the safari. Lars wanted to shoot only a
buffalo. I wanted to shoot almost everything else in the plains game arena, but not a
buffalo, then I went back to the cabin to go to sleep. As I went to sleep I could hear lions in
the distance. It was good to be back in Africa.
