have seen the same thing in Johannesburg. Why, I don't know, maybe to get rid of the bugs.
We got through Bulawayo, out on the highway and headed for the Bubye Valley
Conservancy and the headquarters of Mazunga Safaris about three hours away. The road
was a two lane paved road with small villages scattered along the way, each with a small
grocery store with few groceries, a gas station with no gas, and a lot of people sitting by the
side of the road or in a parking lot selling things. Close to Bulawayo on the way out of town
there are some cultivated fields but after 5 or 10 miles they disappeared and were replaced
by bush with small bits of overgrazed pastures holding a few cows or donkeys.
Round thatched huts occurred occasionally, next to small, rather bleak looking gardens.
