Water then flows into the Chobe river system and on into the Zambezi River, over the Victoria
Falls some 50 miles away, and then on to the Indian Ocean. Angolan rainwater will have
nearly completely traversed Southern Africa, from west to east. The floodwater can also flow
along the Boteti River, if not drained by the mines, and into the Limpopo River. Some believe
that tilting of a large underground tectonic plate may also affect the direction of flow of the
water.
In Mozambique, the Limpopo is joined by the Olifant's, which bisects the Kruger Park but
arises in an area of heavy mining, particularly for coal and iron near Witbank and Phalaborwa.
To the south are the successive larger west East Rivers of Sabi, Crocodile, Lomati, Komati,
Usutu, Maputo - Pongola, Umfolozi, Tugela and Umgeni and ultimately the Kei, the southern
limit of the Bushveld.
