killed other animals. Baldwin documents how they were essentially starving in many areas.
Selous also explored this area and also wrote about obtaining specimens of Nyala for the
British Natural History Museum, along the rivers that flow up to Maputo. He described the
secretive Nyala buck as “perhaps at once the most beautiful and the least known to naturalists
and sportsmen”.
