In-Depth Information
moisture by the Angola Highlands south of the Congo River basin, separated by the Congo Air
Boundary, and hence much of the Kalahari Desert is dependent on Indian Ocean moisture. In
the austral (southern) winter, a high pressure system covers southern Africa and leads to dry
conditions except for the southern small winter rainfall on the south Western Cape.
In a further interesting feedback loop, the Agulhas current warm water of the Indian Ocean
flows down to the southern tip of Africa to meet the Atlantic Ocean and the majority flows then
eastward.
