Habitat: Freshwater and brackish water habitats
Description: This fully submersed plant species has no loating or submersed
leaves. The lowers are pollinated by winds, and reproduction is by vegeta-
tive method with tubers and sexually by seeds.
Compounds and activities: This species has yielded ent-labdane diterpenes,
viz., methyl-15,16-epoxy-12(R)-acetoxy-8,13,14- ent- labdatrien-19-oate,
15,16-epoxy-12(R)-acetoxy-8, and 13,14-ent-labdatrient-19-oic, which pos-
sess antibacterial activities and act against mainly enteric bacteria (Ghobrial
et al., 2007).
