Description: This erect and branching herbaceous perennial plant grows to a
height of 1 m. The alternate leaves are lanceolate and sessile or short peti-
olate. Inlorescence is single axillary lowers that are yellow to white with
four petals each.
Compounds and activities: The bioactive compounds isolated from this species
include shikimic acid, ellagitanin, strictinin, and C-glycosidic lavonoids,
viz., vitexin, isovitexin, orientin, and isoorientin, which possess antimicro-
bial properties (Rao and Merugu, 2012).
