In-Depth Information
Description: It is a perennial species of colonial plant with long and creeping
rhizomes. While the lowers and foliage are green, the fruits and seeds are
brown. It grows to a maximum height of 2 m and has rhizomatous growth.
Compounds and activities: The extracts of this plant species have been found
to possess anticoagulant properties. A signiicant increase of partial throm-
boblastin time (PTT) (more than 20 min) was observed in this species
(Staba et al., 1972).

Description: This climbing palm species has thickets of slender canes that are 40 m
long. These canes possess many pinnate leaves with attractive narrow lealets.
Compounds and activities: The bioactive compounds isolated from this species
include 2-epi-lentiginosine, swainsonine, calystegines B1, B2, C1, and B3,
