Description: This species produces clumps of stems that grow to 1 m.
Inlorescence is a dense, tangled cluster of many lower spikes up to 10 cm
long. Foliage and lowers are green in color.
Compounds and activities: The bioactive compounds isolated from the seeds
of this species are hopeaphenol (resveratrol tetramer), luteolin, 3,5,5′,7′-
tetrahydroxy lavonone, and methylated naringenin (polyphenols). Among
them, the compound hopeaphenol was found to possess cytotoxicity against
human colon cancer (HCT-116, Caco-2), and the IC 50 value was found to be
2-5 µm (Niesen et al., 2012).
