Mycotoxins could also be a problem in old or spoiled feed (see table 10 ) . Many free-range
birds are fed directly on pasture where feed can spill and easily become moldy. Typically birds
with fresh feed available to them will not bother with spoiled feed, but if or when their feed is
restricted, as in the case of rapidly growing broilers, they may be willing to ingest moldy feed.
Feed quality should also be carefully monitored in storage. Nux vomica is a common homeo-
pathic remedy for poisoning, but poison-specific remedies (isopathy) like Belladonna for night-
shade poisoning and Hypericum for St. John's wort poisoning are helpful when the source of
the poisoning is known.
