Diagnosing and Treating Common Health Problems of Poultry
In my survey of Northeast organic poultry producers, the two poultry health-care topics most
commonly reported to be on people's shelves were The Chicken Health Handbook by Gail
Damerow and The Complete Herbal Handbook for Farm and Stable by Juliette de Bairacli
Levy. These two references are indispensable for the small organic poultry farmer. Damerow's
topic provides an excellent diagnostic tool for determining what ails the bird, and Bairacli
Levy's topic provides extensive herbal and homeopathic remedies. As a result of the survey
and extensive research, I attempted to add to this lineup by writing Remedies for Health Prob-
lems of the Organic Laying Flock . This manual is a compendium of management, nutritional,
herbal, and homeopathic remedies for health problems faced by laying hens. The information is
gleaned from organic farmers, old poultry books, herbals, materia medicas, and the extensive
