How it's like Minecraft: Features voxel graphics and destructible/buildable terrain, but in
a first person multiplayer shooter.
Ace of Spades is a wild little shooter that allows players to interact with the environment
similarly to Minecraft, in that you can destroy just about anything you see and can build
structures on the fly. Think Minecraft's building combined with Team Fortress 2's combat.
It's a pretty small game, made by an indie studio, and the graphics are nothing to write home
about, but in terms of ingenuity and gameplay, it's a heck of a title.
As an example: imagine that you and your team are holed up in a tower, being shot at by
enemies from below. Normally in an FPS you'd have to risk peeking out the windows or
running out the doors, which are known points and will surely be covered. In Ace of Spades,
you have other options. You could punch a hole in a wall with a shovel, creating a new spot
to snipe from, or you could tunnel down from the tower and out, maybe even coming up
behind the enemy! You could also use your building skills to add more fortifications to the
tower or block the enemy's view to your doorway, giving you the cover you need to get out
and kick butt.
Ace of Spades doesn't have the huge following of Minecraft, but its community is dedicated and there are
always players online to battle with.
Ace of Spades' voxel-based landscape and low graphics needs allows for a lot of freedom,
not only in terms of player strategy, but also in the physical design of levels and game
modes. The developers have obviously become quite skilled at using their own tools, and
