buttered us up saying that I did such a great job with operations
in Kingston and José was a great engineer, this and that, so,
we figured, there is nothing to lose, nothing was happening …
Nobody was strong enough to take control and give the team
direction, we were still infighting … So, José and I went along
with it on that basis.”
During the 21 October meeting, Kutt tabled a surprising fi-
nancial rescue plan for
MCM
. It was based on a deal he had
struck with some
MCM
employees (Rea, Laraya, Rivington,
Arpin, and Swanson). The proposed plan was the $175,000
loan to
MCM
, consisting of a $120,000 cash component and
$55,000 in salary waivers for a specified period of time. To
make this possible, Kutt wanted all the by-laws passed on 16
July 1974, which started the devastating power struggle, to be
rescinded. Wallace was to resign as managing director of
MCM
and Kutt was to be fully reinstated as president and
CEO
of
MCM
with all the necessary authority to execute his managerial
duties effectively.
