choice but to order Power Conversion Systems Ltd to assemble
60 power supplies of Edwards' design. According to Laraya,
that decision was made “on the basis of Mr. Edwards claiming
that the power supplies would work if not for assembly errors.”
But only two days after that decision was made, on 16 August,
Edwards issued a report about the status of the power supply.
His document indicated a variety of “clean-up problems” and
asserted that the power supply problem would be solved by
12 September in time for MCM 's trip to its largest distributor
client, ILC Data Device Corporation ( DDC ) of Hickville, New
York. Since May, DDC had been lining up potential buyers of
the MCM /70 and was optimistic about the computer's sales in
the United States.
On 17 September, an MCM team traveled to DDC to demon-
strate a number of MCM /70s during a week-long seminar/trade
