7.3. Surface-Based
Morphometry
Besides VBM, other advanced computational neuroanatomical
techniques ( 18 ) are available for processing 3D image sets. While
VBM analyzes image volumes, SBM ( 19 ) focuses on the surface
representation of a structure and performs statistical analysis on a
surface manifold to capture structure changes related to different con-
ditions. Figure 6 shows the results of a sample SBM study, where
