Rodents are anesthetized with pentobarbital sodium (65 mg/kg,
i.p.) and perfused transcardially with 100 ml wash solution (0.8%
NaCl, 0.4% dextrose, 0.8% sucrose, 0.023% CaCl 2 , 0.025% sodium
cacodylate ) followed by 150 ml perfusion solution (4.0% sucrose,
4.0% paraformaldehyde, 1.072% sodium cacodylate). Brains are
removed from skull, stored in fi xative overnight, and incubated
