them develop. Per capita, the industrialized countries have higher energy usage, greater land use (for their
homes, businesses, schools, and recreational activities), and consume more calories (thus, they have a larger
land and energy requirement for food production). Due to an industrialized nation's high consumption of food
and great use of energy and resources, accompanied by the production of waste, their environmental footprints
become quite large. The footprint can reach beyond the industrialized nation and quite often leaves a greater
footprint in the developing countries than their own country.
