Active - Passive
Inthisapproach,theprimarydatacenterwillbeactiveandthesecondarydatacenter
will be in standby mode. The secondary data center will be active only in case of the
failure of the primary data center. Most organizations use this approach for disaster
recovery.
The passive data center hosts rest idly waiting for the failure of the primary data cen-
ter. The switchover can be manual and automatic. Additional scripting is required for
automatic failover of the user traffic to the passive data center. Storage and data has
to replicate at regular intervals to achieve the failover.
The strategy for switching back from the secondary (passive) to the primary data
center has to be included in the automating/manual scripting of the switchover.
