IMPLICATIONS AND CONCLUSION
No doubt thesis is one of the most the important
components in postgraduate studies and in fact acts
as the last safeguard for students accomplishing
their studies. By far, it is the most challenging piece
of academic work as it involved many contributory
factors which determine their rate of completion or
graduation. With this challenge, maintaining steady
progress in all factors or aspects therefore will help
the individual student to accomplish their mission
and will avoid any unfortunate circumstances while
neglecting one of those contributory factors might
lead to the deferment of thesis completion and
extending their graduation date.
A very clear picture emerged in this paper that
postgraduate students are having problem relating
to reading comprehension and facing difficulties in
developing an adequate and acceptable academic
writing skills. This depressing indication has given
some implications not only for the students but
also to supervisor and faculty as a whole.
For the students, they should not think that the
postgraduate studies are similar to those under-
graduates which are not really required substantial
amount of efforts in many aspects. Their under-
graduate mentality in all facets should be trans-
formed or in other word should shift their line of
thought and be more competent, critical and ana-
lytical. The ability to anticipate, decide and solving
matters should also be practiced.
Postgraduate students in this study contact the
post-graduate students of the Faculty of Hotel
and Tourism Management therefore must avoid
any elements of procrastination but provide the
milestone or schedule, targeted date and seriously
follow the schedule. Same goes to the supervisor.
Mutual understanding between student and super-
visor should be developed. Regular meeting with
supervisor plus presenting a good piece of work
should always be practiced by the individual stu-
dent. In other words, presenting a bit and pieces
of their work to the supervisor is more meaningful
rather than showing the bulk of it at the end of the

E1), less able to formalizing the ideas from read-
ing into writing (M = 3.91, E2) and less able to
recognize the suitable phases from study material
affects M = 3.84, E3) delaying their thesis comple-
tion. With that feeling, it is not surprising that the
majority of the postgraduate students strongly
agrees that reading comprehension and writing is
the most daunting challenges in their thesis accom-
plishment (M = 4. 52, E4), agree that less able in
expressing thoughts clearly in English (M = 4.52,
E5) and less ability in interpreting results derived
from analysis cause (M = 4.54, E6) delayed in their
thesis accomplishment therefore realizing that
reading comprehension and writing is a very tough
process in thesis completion (M = 4.72, E7).
4.4 The relationship between reading
comprehension, writing skills and thesis
project completion
The section evaluates the relationship between
reading comprehension, writing skills and the the-
sis completion. In particular, this analysis is to see
how strong writing skills affected post graduate
students thesis completion. A single-step multiple
regression was conducted and the result is tabu-
lated in Table 3.
The result shows that reading comprehension
and writing skills were able to explain 67 percent
( R 2 = 0.51, F-change = 12.494, p<.001**) of the
variance in the thesis completion. This shows that
reading comprehension and writing skills signifi-
cantly contribute to the prediction of the thesis
completion. The value of β = 0.67, p <.001** indi-
cates writing skills significantly and positively
affect the thesis project completion, therefore the
hypothesis H1 vigorously supported.
