four states (Penang, Kuala Lumpur, Melaka and
Johor) will be chosen as there is a steady growth
of boutique hotels within this region. According
to Tourism Malaysia, occupancy percentages of
boutique hotels are 64 percent for Penang, 69 per-
cent for Kuala Lumpur, 62 percent for Melaka and
56.1 percent for Johor. In addition, these states are
popular as tourist destinations in Malaysia due to
the culture and heritage in Penang and Melaka and
fast growing development in Kuala Lumpur and
Johor.
