itage attractions are the Malay traditional house,
Asam Pedas Melaka, Hang Tuah Village, Malay
warrior's mausoleum and Bullock cart (Melaka
State Government, 2013, September 5). Most of
the Malay heritages that can be identified easily
are tangible heritage such as traditional Malay
house and mosque. Such examples are the House
of Munshi Abdullah and traditional houses in
Morten Village and Duyong village (Melaka State
Government, 2013, September 5). These Malay
cultural heritage attractions portray the tradi-
tion and practices of the Malay community dur-
ing the Melaka Sultanate Empire. According to
B1, “Malay cultural heritage represents the way of
life of Malay people from the past generation and
still being practiced until today . Malay cultural
heritage in Melaka is strong. It is proven through
the scenario of people wearing Tanjak in Umbai,
Melaka”. Those who are wearing Tanjak (one of
the Malay attires) are among a group of Malays
that is involved in a martial art which is called
Silat . According to B3, “The Malay cultural herit-
age in Melaka is unique. For example, the model of
the Malay traditional house can only be found in
Melaka” . Therefore, based on the feedback from
interviewees, the strength of Malay cultural herit-
age in Melaka is where the local people are still
practicing the traditions and keeping the valuable
legacy till today. However, it is still new and the
people who are practicing the traditions are based
on group and availability of events like wedding
and cultural ceremony.

3.2 The weaknesses of Malay cultural heritage
in Melaka
The Malay cultural heritage may be divided into
different types of heritage. It includes perform-
ing arts, customs and culture, language, literature,
fine arts and living person (National Heritage
Department, 2013). However, not many Malay
cultural heritages in Melaka are easy to be identi-
fied and have vast information. According to A1,
“Malaysia is lacking in term of literature and weak
in documentation system. Consequently, the history
becomes a myth. The validity of the story is doubt-
ful. As a result, many Malay cultural heritages can-
not be appointed as world heritage”. On the other
hand, B1 has a different perspective about the
weakness of Malay cultural heritage in Melaka,
“More attention have been given to the traditional
Malay dances and music compared to the other
type of cultural heritage like Silat, Malay weapons
and attires” . This scenario caused inequality in
term of promoting the Malay cultural heritage in
Melaka to the outsiders. Another weakness about
Malay cultural heritage in Melaka is regarding
the inheritor or the next generation practitioner.
