In-Depth Information
The North Lake Tahoe Visitors' Bureaus ( 888-434-1262; www.gotahoenorth.com ) can
help get you oriented, although their closest walk-in office is at Incline Village, NV.
Tahoe Vista
Pretty little Tahoe Vista has more public beaches ( www.northtahoeparks.com ) than any
other lakeshore town. Sandy strands along Hwy 28 include small but popular Moon
Dunes Beach , with picnic tables and firepits opposite the Rustic Cottages; North Tahoe
Beach (7860 N Lake Blvd) , near the Hwy 267 intersection, with picnic facilities, barbecue
grills and beach volleyball courts; and Tahoe Vista Recreation Area (7010 N Lake Blvd;
parking $10) , a locals' favorite with a small grassy area and marina and the Tahoe Adven-
ture Company ( 530-913-9212; www.tahoeadventurecompany.com ) renting kayaks and
stand-up paddle boarding gear ($15 to $80).
Away from all the maddening crowds, North Tahoe Regional Park ( MAP
GOOGLE MAP ; www.northtahoeparks.com ; 6600 Donner Rd, off National Ave; per car $3; ) offers
forested hiking and mountain-biking trails, an 18-hole disc-golf course, a children's play-
ground and tennis courts lit-up for night play. In winter, a sledding hill (rentals available)
and ungroomed cross-country ski and snowshoe tracks beckon. To find this hidden park,
drive almost a mile uphill from Hwy 28 on National Ave, then go left on Donner Rd and
follow the signs.
