DON'T MISS
TAHOE RIM TRAIL
Partly paralleling the Pacific Crest Trail, the 165-mile Tahoe Rim Trail
( www.tahoerimtrail.org ) wraps around the lofty ridges and mountaintops of the Lake Tahoe
Basin. Hikers, equestrians and - in some sections - mountain bikers can enjoy inspira-
tional views of the lake and the snowcapped Sierra Nevada while tracing the footsteps of
early pioneers, Basque shepherds and Washoe tribespeople. Dozens of marked trail-
heads all around the lakeshore provide easy access points for hikers, bikers and horse-
back riders.
Covering the entire basin, the Lake Tahoe Basin Trail Map ( www.adventuremaps.net )
is the best guide for hikers, bikers and cross-country skiers.
