miles east in Fiddletown, is an old herbal shop that once served railroad workers. The
dusty collection of artifacts frozen in time are objets d'art .

)
The nicest place to stay in these parts. Built in 1879, it's one of the area's most inventive
updates to the typical antique-cluttered hotels, with sleek deco touches accenting the usual
gingerbread flourish, a genteel bar and a very good, seasonally minded restaurant (mains
$13 to $28). On weekends during the summer, expect a two-night minimum.

California-style cooking.
Drinking & Nightlife
Drytown Club BAR
( www.drytownclub.com ; 15950 Hwy 49; noon-midnight Wed-Fri, to 2am Sat, to 9pm Sun)
Tired of wine? Hit the Drytown Club, the kind of rowdy roadhouse where people start
drinking a little too early and soak it up with weekend BBQ. The bands on the weekend
are bluesy, boozy and sometimes brilliant.
