In-Depth Information
Lincoln Way toward the chamber of commerce has several restaurants popular with locals,
but there's plenty of sunny outdoor eating right off the highway around Sacramento St. For
a place to sleep look to the highway exits where there's every brand of chain hotel.
Ikedas MARKET
( www.ikedas.com ; 13500 Lincoln Way; sandwiches $6-9; 8am-7pm Mon-Thu, to 8pm Fri-Sun; )
If you're cruising this part of the state without time to explore, the best pit stop is this ex-
panded farm stand off I-80 a few miles north of Auburn. Thick, grass-fed beef or veggie
burgers, homemade pies and the seasonal fresh peach shake are deliriously good.
Tsuda DELI
( www.tsudabylina.com ; 103 Sacramento St; mains $9;
7am-5pm Mon-Thu, to 7pm Fri & Sat,
8am-6pm Sun; )
A bakery with crepes, a salad bar and something for every dietary consideration (gluten-
free, veg, toddler etc). Eat outside on the adjacent public patio, which is open to pets.
Auburn Alehouse BREWPUB
( www.auburnalehouse.com ; 289 Washington; mains $8-21;
11am-10pm Mon-Tue, to 11pm Wed-Thu,
to midnight Fri, 9am-midnight Sat, 9am-10pm Sun)
One of those rare brewpubs with both excellent craft beer and food; patrons dig into bur-
gers, sweet potato fries, 'adult mac and cheese' and sweet-and-savory salads. The beer
sampler is a great deal, as Auburn brings home tons of medals for their ales and pilsners.
Hand over the keys before trying the PU240 Imperial IPA, a 'weapons grade hop bomb.'
Kitchen closes one hour before the bar.
Awful Annie's AMERICAN
( www.awfulannies.com ; 160 Sacramento St; mains $9-13; 8am-3pm)
Huge breakfast scrambles and a sunny patio keep Annie's packed. Worth the wait.
Katrina's BREAKFAST
( www.katrinascafe.com ; 456 Grass Valley Hwy; mains $10-15; 7am-2:30pm Wed-Sat, to 2pm Sun)
Lemon yogurt pancakes and all manner of sandwiches in a homey atmosphere; this place
is legit.
